Fire Safety in Schools

General Information

With the exception of arson, the major causes of fires in schools include improper handling and storage of flammable liquids, overloaded electrical outlets and circuits, and excessive accumulation of ordinary combustible materials. Schools should continually strive to establish and maintain a fire-safe environment to protect the lives of students and employees as well as to safeguard materials and property.

Prevention is the key to reduce, control, and eliminate hazardous conditions that may contribute to the cause of many fires. Good housekeeping is vital for preventing fires.
