Crossing Guard Safety

About Crossing Guard Safety

Cartoon Crossing Guard

This course is intended to provide crossing guards with general safety guidelines that supplement the detailed instructions they receive from their District concerning their assigned.

School crossing guards play an important role in the safety of children enroute to school by temporarily stopping the flow of traffic and allowing children to cross the street safely. They also remind drivers that pedestrians are present.

Crossing guards have no arrest powers, cannot write tickets, and can only forward the license plate numbers and other descriptions of alleged violators to local law enforcement, who will decide what to do with that information.

A crossing guard’s appearance must be neat and clean at all times while on duty because a sloppy appearance inevitably results in the loss of public respect. Safety vests and safety equipment are furnished to crossing guards by the District and must be worn at all times while on duty.
