About Bloodborne Pathogens
This training course is designed to provide a basic understanding of bloodborne pathogens, common modes of their transmission, methods of prevention, and other pertinent information.
Bloodborne pathogens are microorganisms, such as viruses or bacteria, that are carried in blood and can cause disease to humans. There are many different bloodborne pathogens, but the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Hepatitis B (HBV), and Hepatitis C (HCV) are the three diseases specifically addressed by the CAL-OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen, Standard Title 8, Section 5193.
