Purpose and Importance of Workplace Inspections
The purpose of any workplace inspection is to ensure that potential or actual dangers in the workplace are found and corrected before they cause accidents and injuries to employees and others. Accident prevention is a fundamental component in maintaining a safe and healthy workplace, contributing to increased worker morale and decreased worker injury and/or absenteeism. Workplace inspections are an important part of any safety management system that helps prevent injuries and illnesses. Through examination of the workplace, inspections identify and record hazards for corrective action. When correctly performed, routine inspections serve to support and improve other elements of the safety program and they allow you to identify and remedy problems before they become more serious or result in an incident or accident. They should not be seen as an isolated or one-time activity. To be effective, inspections must be performed regularly and be an integral part of a systematic accident prevention program.
